Özet

This research meticulously examines the lesson planning abilities of pre-service EFL

teachers, with an emphasis on their developmental journey, and employed strategies to devise

effective lessons. An analytical review of twenty lesson plans coupled with responses from

structured interviews unveils crucial insights into the strengths and challenges experienced

by these emerging teaching professionals. Although the lesson plans exhibited a range of

assessment activities, there was a pronounced lack of diversity in the selected assessment

techniques. Even with the prevalent use of formative and summative assessments, alternative

methods were noticeably missing. Further scrutiny of the teaching approaches employed

revealed a steady use of both collaborative and individual learning strategies. To optimize

lesson delivery’s effi cacy, there is an immediate call for embracing and diligently applying

a wider array of instructional strategies. While the selection and utilization of instructional

materials were generally laudable, there is a need for enhancements, especially in the area

of effectively catering to students’ diverse learning preferences and needs. In addition, the

study highlighted the need for the seamless integration of multiple language skills and the

promotion of language awareness, highlighting areas in need of improvement. Concerning

learning outcomes, the fi ndings highlight the critical need for rigorous alignment with

established educational standards and curriculum, as well as enhanced support for preservice

teachers in crafting and integrating these learning outcomes into their lesson

plans. The study concluded that although pre-service teachers exhibit commendable

lesson-planning abilities, there are specifi c areas that require attention and development to

enhance the quality and effi cacy of EFL instruction. These fi ndings are crucial for refi ning

and enhancing teacher education and training initiatives, thereby fostering the professional

development of future EFL teachers.
