Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to highlight the importance of the perception of museology whichcomprehends the museums as the indispensable necessity due to its functions as protectingcultural assets and bequeathing for the future generations; to increase the museology perception,which is inadequate in terms of in quality and quantity, to the consciousness level; to create anideal contemporary arts museum profile with examples from the world and Turkey.Since the 18th century, whereas more successful museology activities and protectionmethods have gradually been developed, and glorious museums have been built around theworld, the perception of museology has been developed in the last 50-60 years, and lowerresults in terms of quality and quantity have been obtained. In the framework of currentsituation in museums, it is observed that the works which are the part of dusty archives or nonfunctionalizedin the isolated places where they are exhibited are not given the worth theydeserve. Presenting works of art to everyone?s appeal, protecting them from cultural abuse andturning them into an education object are all essential. Because, the consumption areas of thepeople are limited with what they know, see, hear and touch; for this reason, it is true to say thatmuseums are the highest - level institutions which ensure the cultural conditioning of thecountry, constituting consciousness, education. At this point, the importance of the spread of themuseums in society-culture relation, necessity of the development of museology perceptionbecomes clear.Despite the lateness in composing social consciousness and much negativity, it isobserved in Turkey that there has been a rise in the level of consciousness towards museologyduring the last 10-15 years through not only the official institutions but also private institutions.On the other hand, it is observed that in the area of plastic arts, contemporary art museology isthe most neglected one.This thesis work which researches, analyzes and finds solutions for scientificproblematic parallel to the determined objectives. It is expected that the perception ofmuseology shall provide social, cultural, scientific contributions to the comprehensionof the scientific, social consciousness of it.
