Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to show the figure of woman struggling for being or not being a passive symbol/image in all fields of life and art. Therefore, by taking into consideration social, political, cultural and financial developments in Turkey and the world in 20th century, the examination of the art pieces in terms of the reflections of woman image on plastic arts, determines the scope of this thesis. This scope leads our study to form around three main topics that investigate the woman as essence, substance and model.With the unity of soul and body, questioning of woman perception and knowledge indicates the essence. The necessity of woman to state herself to other people indicates the substance. Attributing important roles to woman makes the model(s) visible. At final stage, artistic application fieldis created with a series of pictures produced in the light of obtained informations. In this thesis, it is concluded that natural and universal characteristicsdo not determinewoman oriented perception,according to changing and developing conditions during the agesan imposing understanding of beauty for the woman body is made dominant.Another result that is expected to be reached from this thesis is to raise woman oriented perception and knowledge for that toawareness level.
