Özet

Fertility and parturition parameters of Limousin (n=248) and Charolais (n=81) heifers at the age of 9-11 mo that were imported from Hungary to Doğan Beef Farm were compared. Heifers were fed TMR formulated to meet nutrient requirements. Heifers were inseminated upon the double-PG synchronization and natural estrus. Calvings between 07:00 and 19:00 h were considered night parturitions, those in other hours were considered day parturition. Conception and parturition were categorized by season (cool/warm, cold, and hot). Data were analyzed using ANOVA, regression, and chi-square. 14 L (5.65%) and 5 C (6.17%) were culled prior to parturition. 11 (3.55%) heifers (L=9 and C=2) were culled immediately after parturition. Age at conception (543±7 d) and calving (827±7 d) and pregnancy duration (285±0.6 d) did not differ by the breed. There was a breed effect on insemination index (C=3.39±0.22 vs. L=2.32±0.10) and calf weight (C=46.1±0.8 vs. L=40.2±0.3 kg) (P<0.0001). Females were lighter than males (F=39.5±0.3 vs. M=43.7±0.5 kg, P<0.0001). Ages at conception and parturition prolonged 25 days with service number [Age at Conception, d=476.21±(Insemination Number, N x 25.699); R2 =0.2470 and Age at Parturition, d =761.82±(Insemination Number, N x 25.265), R2 =0.2389]. Pregnancy duration prolonged with calf weight [Pregnancy Duration, d=274.40±(Calf Weight, kg x 0.248), R2 =0.0298). There was no relationship between breed and conception season. L (76.50%) become pregnant more after synchronization, whereas C (56.58%) become pregnant more after natural estrus (X2 =29.0282, P<0.0001). Pregnancy rate at first three services was higher in L (82.48%) than C (59.22%) (X2 =27.5870, P<0.0003). Parturition time and season were not related to retained placenta rate and calf weight Calving ease was higher for L (58.12%) than that for C (36.84%) (X2 =10.4244, P<0.0054). Complications at parturition was independent from breed, calving ease, calf sex. In summary, insemination index was higher for C, whereas calving ease was higher for L.
