Abstract:Relationship between Psychosocial Health Status of Pregnant Women and Role of Motherhood Aim : This descriptive study was conducted in order to evaluate the relationship between psychosocial health status of pregnant women and the role of motherhood. Material and Method: The study was conducted with 420 pregnant women who went to the polyclinics of Nenehatun Maternity Hospital in the city center of Erzurum for their antenatal controls between September 2013 and June 2014. The data were collected by using the 'Personal Information Form', 'Pregnancy Psychosocial Health Assessment Scale' and 'Semantic Differentation scale- Myself as mother'. Percentage distribution, mean, t-test, One Way Analysis of Variance, Kruskall Wallis, Mann Whitney – U and Pearson Correlation analysis were used to assess the data. Results: It was determined that while the total mean score obtained by pregnant women from PPHAS was 4.33±0.37, their total mean score of MAM was 60.5±9.9. Pregnancy period, pregnancy planning status, as well as intention of husbands regarding pregnancy affected the role of motherhood (p<0.05). Evaluating the relationship between mean scores of PPHAS and MAM; a positive significant relationship was determined between the psychosocial health of pregnant women and the role of motherhood (p<0.01, r= .162).
