Abstract:

Aim: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of emotional resilience training on fear of childbirth and depression in primiparous pregnant women. Material and Method: This study is an experimental randomized controlled trial. The data of the study were completed with 67 pregnant women (Intervention: 33, Control: 34) who volunteered and met the research criteria and applied to the NST and polyclinic units of Bayburt State Hospital between April 2024 and January 2025. Data were collected using the Pregnant Identifier Form, Wijma Childbirth Expectation/ Experience Scale A, Wijma Childbirth Expectation/ Experience Scale B, and Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale. Data were analyzed using chi-square, t-test for independent groups, and ANOVA for repeated measurements. Results: A significant difference was found between the first follow-up mean scores of the Wijma Birth Expectation/ Experience Scale A between the experimental and control groups (p=0.001). A significant difference was found between the second follow-up and post-test mean scores of the Wijma Birth Expectation/ Experience Scale B according to the groups (p=0.001). While there was a significant difference between the first follow-up mean scores of the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale between the groups (p=0.001), there was no significant difference between the second follow-up and post-test mean scores (p>0.05). Conclusion: Emotional resilience training in primiparous pregnant women was found to be effective in reducing fear of childbirth and depression levels during pregnancy and the postpartum period.
