Abstract:

ABSTRACT Evaluation of Pregnants' Prenatal Attachment and Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Perceptions Aim: The research was carried out to assess pregnants' prenatal attachment with breastfeeding-self-sufficiency perceptions. Material and Method: The research was carried out in Nenehatun Maternity Hospital in Erzurum between 01 February 2017 and 29 December 2017 with 320 pregnants, who came to prenatal control after 20th gestational week. The data were collected by using the personal information form, Prenatal Attachment Inventory and Prenatal Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale. Percentage of distributions, mean, t test, One-Way Anova and Pearson Correlation Analysis were used for evaluating the data. The Bonferroni test was applied as a further analysis in One-Way Anova analysis. Results: The mean of the total score obtained from the PAI is 54.44±14.67 and the mean of the total score obtained from the (PBSES) is 68.32±13.65. It is determined that pregnants' prenatal attachment and prenatal breastfeeding self-sufficiency are positively related (p<0.0001, r=0.817). It was found that the difference between pregnant women's education, working status, income perception, pregnancy number, pregnancy planning status, gestational week, baby gender both mean of score obtained from PAI and PBSES are statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: It is concluded that pregnants' prenatal attachment is at mid-level and prenatal breastfeeding self- efficacy is at good level. Some sociodemographic and obstetric characteristics of pregnants have been found to affect both prenatal attachment and prenatal breastfeeding self-efficacy.
