Abstract:


Purpose: This study aims to determine whether there is a significant relationship between teachers' awareness and attitudes towards inclusive education. Method: This study is a quantitative research and was designed with a relational survey model. The study sample consists of 448 teachers selected using cluster sampling from teachers working in different branches and education levels in the Şehitkamil district of Gaziantep province. To collect data in the research, "Personal Information Form", "Teacher Awareness Scale for Inclusive Education", and "Teacher Attitude Scale towards Inclusive Education" were used. The data obtained in the study was first tested for normality. T-test and one-way analysis of variance were performed based on the normal distribution of the data. In addition, Correlation Analysis was performed to examine the relationship between the variables. Findings: According to the research results, teachers' awareness of inclusive education was high; there was no significant difference according to gender and length of service. A significant difference was found in receiving in-service training, having disadvantaged students in the class and teaching level. In addition, according to the research results, teachers' attitudes towards inclusive education are at a high level; there is no significant difference according to gender, education level and in-service training. A significant difference was found in the variables of the presence of disadvantaged students in the classroom and the length of service. Results: It was concluded that teachers' awareness and attitudes towards inclusive education were high. A positive and moderate relationship was found between teachers' awareness of inclusive education and their attitudes towards inclusive education. Keywords: inclusive education, awareness, attitude.
