Measuring Psychological Skill Levels of Amateur and Professional Football Players

Abstract:

İntroduction and Aim: There are multiple factors in achieving success in sports. Individual psychological skill levels are also one of these factors. The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between the professional and amateur football players by comparing their psychological skills with different variables. Material and Method: The scope of the research is consisted of 14 team formed by Turkey Professional leagues (Spor Toto Super League, Turkish Football Federation 1st League, Turkish Football Federation 2nd and 3rd League) and amateur leagues. Sample group of the research is selected as Gaziantepspor, Gençlerbirliği, Samsunspor, Ankaragücü, B.B. Erzurumspor, Göztepe, Pendik Spor, 1461 Trabzonspor, Van Büyükşehir Belediye Spor, Tek 12 Mart Spor, Iğdır Aras Spor, Çarşamba Spor Atakum Bld. Spor, Yakutiye Spor and Tatvan Gençlerbirliği Spor. There are total of 316 amateur footballers who participated voluntarily and were selected before. In this research; demographic characteristics of participants are collected by using "Personal Information Form" and other research data are collected by using "Evaluation Scale of Psychological Skills of Sportsmen". The Turkish validity and reliability of the Evaluation Scales of The Psychological Skills of The Sportsmen were made by Erhan and his friends. The scale reliability coefficient is found as 0.85. In this research, the reliability coefficient is calculated and it is found as 0.84. Result: Different statistical analyses are applied to the data obtained from the participants, by using "IBM SPSS Statistics v21.0" software. It is concluded that data of the survey applied to the participants show normal distribution. Data are analyzed by applying parametric tests. Conclusion: As a result of the study, significant differences are found between variables such as gender, sport type of the participants in the survey and the scores of some sub-dimensions of the “Evaluation Scales of The Psychological Skills of The Sportsmen”. It is also found that there are significant relationships between its sub-dimensions.
