Abstract:

Aim: This study was conducted to examine the effect of perceived parenting self-efficacy on maternal attachment of mothers who gave birth prematurely. Material and Method: The research is descriptive and conducted with mothers who have given premature birth to infants aged 1-12 months in Rize province and its districts between 10.07.2023 and 30.11.2023. A power analysis was performed to determine the required sample size, reaching a conclusion of 107 participants. However, the research was conducted with 118 mothers between the specified dates. Data were collected using a "Personal Information Form," "Perceived Parenting Self-Efficacy Scale," and "Maternal Attachment Scale." Statistical methods such as number, percentage, mean, parametric tests, non-parametric tests and Pearson correlation analysis were employed for data evaluation. Results: The mothers' perceived maternal self-efficacy scale total score average was found to be 64.46±8.00 and the maternal attachment scale total score average was 93.91±12.33. A positive and significant correlation was found between perceived maternal parenting self-efficacy and maternal attachment. Conclusion: Mothers who have experienced preterm birth have been found to have high levels of perceived parenting self-efficacy and maternal attachment.
