Abstract:

Aim: This study was carried out to determine the effect of birth dance performed in the 1st stage of labor on birth perception and comfort. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted as a randomized controlled clinical study with pregnant women admitted to Erzurum Nenehatun Maternity Hospital delivery room between 05 December 2019 and 25 May 2020. Pregnant women to be included in the study were randomly assigned to 2 groups. The experimental group consisted of pregnant women who had a birth dance (n=65) and the control group consisted of pregnant women who received hospital care (n=65). Data were collected using the "Personal Information Form", "Mother's Perception of Birth Scale" and "Birth Comfort Scale". The conformity of the data to the normal distribution was evaluated with the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, and the number, percentage, mean chi-square and t-test were used in the statistical evaluation of the data. Results: It was determined that all pregnant women in the experimental and control groups were similar in terms of introductory features. It was determined that there was no significant difference between the experimental group's pretest total score averages of the Mother's Perception of Birth Scale and the Birth Comfort Scale (p=0.12). It was determined that there was a statistically significant difference between the post-test total mean scores of the Experimental group on the Mother's Perception of Delivery Scale and the Birth Comfort Scale (p=0.001). Conclusion: It was determined that the practice of birth dance performed in the first stage of labor increased the positive perception of birth and the comfort level of pregnant women.
