Abstract:

Aim: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of breastfeeding pillow on breastfeeding self-efficacy and postpartum comfort in primiparous puerperant women who gave birth by cesarean section. Materials and Methods: The research was carried out as a randomized controlled experimental study with primiparous puerperal women admitted to the obstetrics service of Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University Mengücek Gazi Training and Research Hospital between 29.11.2022 and 30.05.2023. The puerperant women to be included in the study were randomly assigned to 2 groups. Experimental group consisted of puerperant women who used a nursing pillow (n=40) and control group consisted of puerperal women who were given a normal breastfeeding process (n=40). Data were collected using "Personal Information Form", "Postpartum Comfort Scale" and "Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale". Number, percentage, chi-square, mean, dependent and independent groups t-test and correlation analysis were used in the statistical analysis of the data. Results: When the pre-test comparison of EÖYÖ was examined, the difference between the scale mean scores of the groups was found to be statistically insignificant (p>0.05). When the post-test comparison of EÖYÖ was examined, the difference between the scale mean scores of the groups was found to be statistically significant (p<0.05). When the total mean scores of the DSKÖ scores of the groups were examined, there was no significant difference in the pre-test, but the difference between the post-test measurements was significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that the breastfeeding pillow increased the level of breastfeeding self-efficacy and postpartum comfort in primiparous puerperant women who gave birth by cesarean section.
