Abstract:Purpose: This study was conducted to determine and compare the levels of fear of childbirth before pregnancy in young women and men who are considering having a child in the future. Materials and Methods: The descriptive study was carried out at Ataturk University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Engineering with 600 (301 female, 299 male) students who volunteered between 17 February and 30 March 2020. Data collection; questionnaire form and pre-pregnancy birth fear scale were used. Results: The mean pre-pregnancy fear of childbirth scores of young people were 36.89±9.26 in women and 31.50±7.26 in men. When the mean scores of pre-pregnancy fear of childbirth were compared, the statistically difference was significant (p<0.001). Considering the variables of age, faculty, class, and family income, it was found that young women experienced more fear of childbirth than men in all groups. Conclusion: Although the fear of childbirth before pregnancy is seen at an undeniable level in young women and men, it is experienced at a higher level in women than in men.
