Abstract:Martin Heidegger, who is one of the most important philosophers of the 20th century, has a quite important position not only with his philosophy, but also with the theological background he had. During his philosophy education, he abandoned his Catholic origin and turned towards Protestantism. Afterwards, he has completely turned away from Christianity arguing that philosophy should be a-theistic. However, Heidegger's late thoughts are not theological, nor are they atheism. Therefore, in studies made on his philosophy in order to make accurate evaluations, this aspect should not be overlooked. Martin Heidegger's thoughts contributed to different fields such as phenomenology, hermeneutics, theology and existentialism. Especially, his metaphysical criticism of onto-theology and the technological world has been influential in the development of postmodern theories. In addition to this, Heidegger's comments on Presocratic philosophers, Kant and Nietzsche, offer a new perspective on ontology and being, which are the main problems of his thought. This study aims to reveal the main issues in Heidegger's thought -ontology, existence, theology, God, the essence of truth- in connection with his critique of the traditional Western philosophy. According to Heidegger, the Western Philosophy forgot "Being" and as a result has had a nihilistic character. Heidegger argues that a new beginning of the philosophy –moving from the Ancient Greek idea of experiencing Being - should be established going beyond this nihilist metaphysics. Key Words: Heidegger, Theology, Onto-Theology, Being, God, Truth.
