Abstract:

Culture, which is an environment made up of the material and spiritual elements of human being established and created by humans, adds a new perspective to its existence in every period. Popular culture, which has many sub-branches in itself, is one of the most talked about itself today, and it is an important field that should be examined in particular. The problem that popular culture, which has been nourished by folk culture from the past to the present, has changed it and put it into new forms, has also reshaped identities to a great extent. How popular culture does this is better understood through examples. In this context, as an example, how the "Temel" type, which is actually a folk culture element, or more specifically Laz, has become a popular culture element has been examined within the scope of the thesis. For this reason, people who are Black Sea or Laz people watched the movie Sümela'nın Şifresi: Temel, a movie that belongs to the popular culture cinema, and then in-depth interviews were conducted, both about the movie and about the subject.
