Abstract:
It was carried out to evaluate the nutritional status of athletes engaged in endurance sports and to evaluate the relationship between anthropometric measurements and maximum oxygen capacity (VO2max). Method: 20 endurance athletes, 12 men and 8 women, participated in the study. The sports branch of 11 of the athletes is cross-country skiing and the sports branch of 9 of them is biathlon. To determine the nutritional status of the athletes, a 3-day food consumption record form and a food consumption frequency questionnaire will be filled out.Food consumption record data will be analyzed with BEBIS 9.1 program. Anthropometric measurements were made with the Tanita MC 780 MA device.Maximum oxygen consumption test will be applied with the Cosmed K5 device to determine endurance performances. Findings: A statistically significant relationship was found between body fat percentage and maximum oxygen consumption (p:0.044), between muscle mass (kg) and maximum oxygen consumption (p:0.015), and between lean body mass and maximum oxygen consumption (p:0.013).There is a statistically significant difference between the maximum oxygen consumption amount of individuals according to their gender (p <0.05). When we look at the nutritional values of men on their days off and training days, a statistically significant difference was found in women's energy, protein, fat, fiber and vitamin B12 intake in terms of energy, fat, fiber, iron, vitamin C and B12 intake on the training day.The relationship between the maximum oxygen consumption amount according to gender and the maximum oxygen consumption amount in men and women with carbohydrates, protein, fat and vitamin C in nutrients is not statistically significant. Result: In order to increase the endurance performance of athletes, their nutritional status should be optimized and individualized. Body composition values, which have been found to be important determinants of performance, should be improved. More comprehensive studies are needed to determine the effect of nutrients on VO2max.
