Autoantibody tests play a critical role in the diagnosis and monitoring of autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, and autoimmune thyroid disorders. These tests are increasingly requested in clinical practice, often as part of broad diagnostic panels. However, the growing frequency of test orders without standardized clinical indications has led to concerns about unnecessary healthcare spending and inefficiencies in laboratory resource utilization.
This project aims to conduct a comprehensive cost analysis of autoantibody testing in Turkey, focusing on its economic impact within the national healthcare system. Both direct costs (reagents, labor, equipment usage) and indirect costs (unnecessary testing, delayed diagnosis, resource misallocation) will be assessed. The study will also examine usage patterns, regional differences, and the alignment of test requests with clinical guidelines.
The results of this project will provide data-driven insights for policymakers and healthcare administrators to optimize diagnostic strategies, promote rational test utilization, and improve cost-effectiveness in laboratory medicine. Furthermore, the findings will support the development of evidence-based test ordering protocols, contributing to better resource allocation, enhanced diagnostic efficiency, and reduced healthcare expenditures.
