Proje Özeti

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is one of the most widely used diagnostic tools in modern healthcare. While MRI provides significant benefits in early and accurate diagnosis, the increasing frequency of its use in clinical practice has led to a substantial rise in healthcare costs. In Turkey, the widespread use of MRI—often without standardized clinical guidelines—necessitates a comprehensive evaluation of its cost-effectiveness within the public health system.

This project aims to conduct a cost-effectiveness analysis of MRI services across various healthcare settings in Turkey. It will assess both the direct costs (machine operation, labor, maintenance, etc.) and indirect costs (unnecessary imaging, repeated scans, time loss) associated with MRI use. Additionally, the study will compare the clinical value and economic impact of MRI procedures for different diagnostic purposes, helping to distinguish between medically necessary and excessive imaging practices.

The findings of the project will support evidence-based policymaking by offering insights into optimizing the use of MRI in a way that balances clinical benefit with economic sustainability. The results are expected to contribute to the development of national imaging protocols, improve resource allocation, and ultimately enhance the efficiency of the Turkish healthcare system. Furthermore, this project aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
