Earthquakes in the past, damage distributions, observations and teachings It has shown that all
engineering structures in Kocaeli Province are under earthquake hazard. In this study, the
contribution of the infill walls to the earthquake performance of the reinforced concrete building
was investigated in order to ensure that the structures constructed with today 's knowledge and
workmanship application experience remain at a limited level of damage against a possible large
earthquake. In this study, 10-storey reinforced concrete building located at 40.77 latitude and
29.98 longitude coordinates in Izmit District of Kocaeli Province was selected as the working
structure and numerical analyzes were conducted and earthquake response simulations were
tested for a series of scenarios earthquake. Reinforced concrete building, which took place in
Kocaeli 11 using massive earthquake station records, Turkey Earthquake Building Regulations
2018 have suggested that non-linear time history analysis done, contribute to performance
against earthquake reinforced concrete building where it is available and there are unavailable
infill walls were followed. As a result of the placement of the infill walls as symmetrical and
partition elements on all floors of the reinforced concrete building, it was observed that the
displacements and internal forces caused by the earthquake in the building carrier elements
decreased. In addition, it was concluded that the building, which is normally observed to be
damaged, has reached a limited level of damage as a result of the placement of infill walls as part
of the partition walls. Finally, it was observed that the use of infill walls in reinforced concrete
buildings increased the ability of building carrier elements to perform plastic deformation
without collapse and consequently the damping rates in the building increased. In order to
predict the performance of reinforced concrete buildings against earthquakes together with all
existing elements, it is concluded that wall elements should be considered as bearing elements
and should be included in the design. The results obtained within the framework of the study are
inevitable in terms of reflecting the reality of the criteria and safe redistribution conditions by
clarifying the definitions and functions of partition and bearing walls of building regulations.
