Abstract
Background: COVID-19 infection is experienced as the last global epidemic, causing millions deaths
worldwide, and is still ongoing. Vaccines against SARS CoV-2 have been rapidly developed and started
to be applied.
Aim: To determine the neurological side effects and safety of inactive SARS CoV-2 CoronaVac
(SINOVAC) vaccine on healthcare workers.
Material and Method: The study, which was approved by the Ministry of Health and Ethics
Committee, was carried out between 25.01.2021 and 15.02.2021. Due to pandemic conditions, data were
collected via an online questionnaire. Healthcare professionals were contacted via e-mail and social
media, informed about the study, and invited to participate. Participation was voluntary and online
consent of the participants was obtained.
Results: Complete data of 2608 people were evaluated. The average age of the participants was 37.69
± 12.233, 1891 (72.5%) were women. 674 (25.8%) were doctors, 538 (20.6%) nurses, 474 (18.2%) were
medical students. 789 (30.2%) were using cigarettes and 462 (17.7%) were using alcohol. 432 (16.6%)
had COVID-19 (42.2% mild, 46.1% moderate, 11.8% severe). 613 (23.5%) had an allergy and 618
(23.7%) had a chronic disease. It was determined that vaccine-related side effects lasted for a few days
in 45% (n = 852), the first few hours in 23%, and a week in 10.1% (n = 160). Neurological Side Effects
Associated with Inactive CoronaVac (Sinovac) Vaccine showed at Table 1.Conclusion: Inactive CoronaVaC vaccine caused acceptable neurulogical side effects in healthcare
workers. All side effects improved with supportive treatments, and no death or serious illness was
observed. We can say that the Sinovac vaccine is safe for healthcare workers.
