COVID-19 encephalopathy: A case report

Özet

Background and Aim

SARS-CoV-2 binding ACE-2 receptors, so effected multi-system and organs. Brain is one of the most

affected organ. Encephalopathy is rare condition. In here we aimed presentation a case has

encephlopathy in COVID-19 infection.

Case

A 20-year girl admitted to the emergence clinic with complaints of conciousness, fever and vomiting

similar encephalitis. On physical examination, fever was 39 0 C, general condition poor. Cooperation

and orientation were not providing. Neck stifness was positive as meningeal irritation sign. Lomber

punction was made. In analysis of cerebro spinal fluid, there was not pathologic cell or leukocyte. All

biochemical arameters were normal. SARS-CoV-2 PCR test was positive. Ground glass opacity present

in high resolution torax tomography (HRCT). The patient was hospitalized in COVID-19 ward.

Mannitol and dexamethazone started as antiedema theatment. Additionally, COVID-19 supportive

therapy and favipiravir given to the patient. After one day cooperation provide to the patient. The

patients observed with supportive therapy 10 days. All symptoms and signs improved, and discharged

Conclusion

COVID-19 may present differen neurological involvement. Although encephalopathy is rara condition,

keep in mind in COVID-19 patients. Supportive therapy should be given.
