The aim of this study was to determine the risk levels based on the capital structure of the dairy farms
in Erzurum Province by means of balance-sheets of 2013-2014 production periods. For this purpose, the primary
data obtained from a survey conducted on 145 dairy farms constituted the main material of the study. The
balance-sheet of the farms was formed and the major assets and financial rations related to financial risks were
computed. The results showed that all the dairy farms were under risk in terms of the current and liquid assets,
had not financial power to fulfill their obligations, and had excess assets in favor of net fixed assets. The increase
in production costs were mainly due to above mentioned factors. On the other hand, financial and economic
profitability ratios were very low due to insufficient return ratio of capital for all the farms. A more balanced
combination of current and fixed assets against the latter one, would contribute significantly to the success of
yearly activity results, thus improve the sustainability of farms.
