Özet

Geographical indications can be expressed as a type of industrial property right that provides prestige to the regions where they are produced, gives identity to the product, encourages standard production, contributes to sustainability and triggers the development of tourism. These special products support both regional development, national and international marketing and the increase of tourism revenues, and their importance is better understood day by day. For this reason, Antep baklava, Turkey's first geographical indication (GI) registered product in European Union (EU) standards, was discussed in the research. The study aimed to determine the knowledge level of Antep baklava producers about geographical indications, the contribution of Antep baklava to the 25th-27th Apr 2024 ŞIRNAK, TÜRKİYE IWACT’24 159 city's tourism, to identify problems and to develop suggestions. In the study conducted with the qualitative research method, data were obtained through face-to-face interviews with 19 Antep baklava producers and interpreted by subjecting them to content analysis. The geographical indication knowledge level of Antep baklava producers can be considered as high (78.9%). Antep baklava is seen and embraced by the producers as one of the city's most important and Turkey's leading tourist products. Especially after the EU geographical indication registration, Antep baklava, as a touristic product, makes significant contributions to the promotion of Gaziantep, the income of the local people, employment in the region and the tourism of the city. However, it has been determined that manufacturers are experiencing problems such as raw material supply, standard production, and stockpiling due to the effect of variable prices.
