Özet

Tantalum explosively formed projectiles (EFP's) exhibit irregular shapes for high-oxygen-containing, PM-processed EFP Ta precursors. Their residual microstructures have been examined by light metallography and transmission electron microscopy ITEM), and compared with those for regular EFP's produced from wrought Ta plate with low oxygen. This comparison also included residual microhardness maps developed over polished half sections for the recovered EFP projectiles. TEM analysis coupled with selected-area electron diffraction (SAED) illustrated a very high volume fraction of dynamically recrystallized (DRX) grain structures in the high-oxygen Ta EFP in contrast to a very low DRX fraction in regular Ta EFP's.
