Özet

In present work, the effect of bentonite clay is researched on the removal of andesitic stone contaminated with magnesium sulphate salt. Due to different reasons, the building stones are affected negatively over time by the influence of some harmful salts. The damage caused by the salts usually is seen as accumulation and dusting on the surface of the stone. Also, one of these contaminating salts is magnesium sulphate. In this way, due to the hygroscopic nature of MgSO4 penetrating into the stone, it physically damages the stone compared to their chemical composition and reduces the life of historical buildings. In the experiments, the stone samples contaminated with salt are covered with a bentonite clay which is brought to liquid confinement. Significant level of salt removal is obtained in the treatment of magnesium sulphate containing andesite stone samples with bentonite clay.
