This study aims to analyze the awareness levels of renewable energy among students at Atatürk University and identify factors influencing this awareness. The research involved a face-to-face survey conducted in 2023 with 320 university students selected through random sampling. The survey utilized a 5-point Likert-type renewable energy awareness scale developed by Morgil. Additionally, socio-demographic data such as age, gender, parents’ education levels, and whether students had received education in renewable energy or related courses were collected. An ordered probit model was developed based on the collected data, and the model was found to be statistically significant. Results indicated that gender, mother’s education level, and receiving energy-related education significantly affected renewable energy awareness. Specifically, female students demonstrated higher awareness levels compared to males, and taking energy courses positively influenced awareness. Conversely, age and father’s education level were not found to have a significant impact on awareness. Literature supports the finding that mother’s education plays a more decisive role in shaping children’s environmental awareness. The findings suggest that strengthening environmental and energy education within university curricula, developing targeted programs to reduce gender-based awareness disparities, and organizing educational activities aimed at raising environmental consciousness among families are crucial. Implementing these strategies is expected to enhance renewable energy awareness and contribute to the development of a sustainable society.
