Özet

Subculture is one of the most important factors that shape and color the central culture. The phenomena that make up the subculture, on the other hand, emerge largely with the effect of local dynamics and carry the colors, living conditions, feelings-thoughts, customs, traditions and customs of the region where it comes to life. For this reason, the power of the central culture to survive and the amount of enrichment in the course of time are largely parallel to the intensity of the phenomena it has incorporated from the subculture. As in every field of culture, the development and enrichment of music culture is greatly influenced by the contribution of regional music cultures to the central culture. Regional lifestyles and ways of thinking are embodied in the works produced in the regional music culture, and these forms are carried into the central culture thanks to the regional music culture. In this research, the phenomena of "Gazel" and "Gazelhan", which are one of the nourishing sources of the central music culture and continue to exist intensively in the Eastern Anatolia-Southeastern Anatolia regions, have been examined in Erzurum province. During the research process, the important representatives of this culture in the region were examined through participatory observation method and these people were tried to be given meaning in their natural environment, the tradition they represent and the musical structure created by this tradition. Based on the data obtained, the paper tries to clarify what this culture means for the people of the region, what it contributes to the central music culture, and its meaning for the people who are the carriers of this culture. The tradition of Gazel and Gazelhan, which is widespread in Erzurum and its surroundings, contributes to the national music culture, especially the regional, and the works produced in the form of religious music have become widespread and added to the national music repertoire. The musical works that are composed in different forms and genres in terms of musical structure reflect primarily the melodic memory of the environment in which they exist, and these works are generally shaped in a way close to the genre of folk music. The lyrics are chosen from the poem corpus belonging to the important thinkers of the region, and thus the poems of these thinkers, whose names are identified with the region, reach a wider audience through music. In parallel with this, the religious teachings prevailing in the region are disseminated by means of works produced within the gazel tradition and a life style associated with these religious teachings is concretized thanks to this tradition. Those who represent this tradition display a life in accordance with these religious teachings in the society and are seen as having love and respect within this framework. Gazelhane and the gazel playing tradition, like every living tradition, goes through a change in parallel with the developments all around the world and includes different practices in time, provided that the essence is preserved. During the aforementioned process of change, some phenomena such as instrument, place, performer in this tradition and the tradition itself partially adapt to the changing conditions. Thanks to this non-static structure, it penetrates more into the society through music and continues to be alive in every period thanks to this change.
