Özet

Poverty has always been a problem throughout the human history. People have mostly used donation/grant method to fight against this problem but this method has not work well to eradicate the poverty. Recently, especially after 1970s, micro credit has been adopted as a poverty eradication tool in all over the world. Grameen Bank type Micro credit, used in many countries, has been first introduced to Turkey in 2003. The project carried out with the cooperation of Grameen Bank has been working successfully so far. As of June 2006, 3.454.101 YTL credit has been loaned to 3385 very poor women to invest in 70 different jobs, and the rate of return is almost 100%. Through this program, poor people found their own businesses and become business owners. Hence, they provide additional income for their families and exceed the poverty line. Micro credit first implemented in Bangladesh and 50% of very poor people who got loan from this program have exceeded the poverty line, increased their education levels and living standards. Micro credit can be a very effective tool to eradicate poverty and in rural development in Turkey if right policies and infrastructure are implemented
