Purpose: The aim of this study is to examine the distribution of geriatric patients who applied
to Atatürk University Faculty of Dentistry, Prosthetic Dentistry Clinic fortreatment before and
during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Materials-Method: Within the scope of this retrospective study, 5248 applications registered at
Atatürk University Faculty of Dentistry between the years 2018-2021 wereexamined. The age,
gender, date of admission to the clinic, type and number of treatment applied were recorded.
Statistical analysis of the data was done withdescriptive statistics and Chi-square analysis.
Statistical significance level was determined as P<0.05.
Results: A statistically significant difference was found in the number of geriatric patients
treated in 2018-2021, the lowest number of patients was seen in 2020, whenthe COVID-19
pandemic was most intense (P=0.000). The mean age of the patients was 70.87±5.42, and
there was no statistically significant differencebetween the mean age of the patients by years
(P=0.168). The year with the highest percentage of male patients (62.5%) was 2021; The year
with the highestrate of female patients (47.6%) is 2020. There was a statistically significant
difference between the percentages of male and female patients by years (P=0.21).In all years,
the most common treatment applied to patients in the prosthetic dental treatment clinic is full
dentures. There was no statistically significantdifference according to the types of treatment
administered between years (P=0.067).
Conclusion: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the types of treatments applied in the Atatürk
University Faculty of Dentistry, Prosthetic Dentistry Clinic and the average age ofthe geriatric
patients did not change, but a serious decrease was observed in the number of patients who
applied, especially in 2020.
