Effective decontamination protocols in the emergency department are of crucial importance to patient safety and public health. This chapter discusses the basic principles of decontamination by focusing on various methods and technologies employed to reduce contamination risks in the emergency department. The basic principles of decontamination, the stages involved, which decontamination protocol should be applied for which medical instrument, and the advantages/disadvantages of the procedures to be applied will be considered. The objective is to provide a comprehensive resource for Healthcare Personnel (HCP) in emergency departments (EDs) and to improve readiness and responses to potential disaster scenarios by examining difficulties and innovations in emergency department decontamination. In addition, the quality and sustainability of decontamination will be emphasized while stressing the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation and training for (HCP).
