Due to structural problems in farms, income per capita in agricultural sector is lower than in other sectors. All
countries in the world support their agricultural sectors in various ways because of strategic importance of
agricultural products. Agricultural supports play an important role in production and income level of farmers.
Incentives and supports can lead to product diversity, stable production, quality improvement and productivity
increase, and hence increase in farm income. The data obtained from 125 farms in Erzurum province through survey
study were analyzed with probit regression model. This study aims to determine socioeconomic and demographic
factors affecting farmers’ willingness to utilize from agricultural support policies and to put forth the current local
situation for the consideration of the policy makers.
According to regression results; as age gets older and retiring pension increases, farmers’ willingness to adopt
agricultural support policies decreases. However, as education level, off-farm and on-farm income, farmers’ family
and cultivated land size, the number of animals increase and when the farmers receive agricultural support premiums
at the beginning of production period, farmers’ willingness to adopt agricultural support policies increases, as well.
For this end, alternative scarce sources must be allocated efficiently for the production, negative effects on production
costs can be minimized, farmers’ competition power can be increased, and farmers’ life standards can be improved by
agricultural support policies
