Özet

The Nusairis living in and around Antioch and Alexandretta are examined in this article. The area includes Antioch, Alexandretta, Seleucia, and Arsuz where Nusairis settled. This documentary study handles 19(th) century documents. Nusairis were inclined to resemble Sunnis by joining mosques and Islamic holy places. They continuously sent applications to be accepted as Sunnis in the last 30 years of the 19(th) century. Although these applications were never refused by the State authorities, they were resisted by regional opposition. The aim of converting in to Sunniism was yet achieved in the reign of Abdulhamid II. The schools were established in the large Nusairi villages in this era, and their children were educated. The Nusairis in this era are also evaluated from various angles in this research.
