Özet

This article aims to focus on the subject of reticence and the untold in The Long Dry by Welsh novelist Cynan Jones. The Long Dry tells a day of a farm family living in rural life with harmony andJones focuses on both natural descriptions and numerous details to understand the time while dealing with the family's isolated existence. It is discussed in the novel in one day from the perspective of a cow and other members of the family, and the stream of consciousness approach is utilized to convey the psychological insights of the major characters. With the passage of time, the family has gotten assimilated into natural life and has stayed as silent as nature and their farm animals. As unspoken subjects and secrets between them emerge, interpersonal relationships become strained, and individuals are shattered as a result of communication breakdown, isolation, alienation, and fragmentation. The purpose of this paper is to explain and discuss the reticence and the untold that dominate the life of the family and the narrative of this novella.
