This paper describes a gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (GC-FID) method for the simultaneous determination of estradiol valerate (EV) and medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) in combined tablet dosage forms. The analysis was completed in less than 12 min. Calibration curves ranged between 0.25-5.0 and 0.5-10 mu g/mL for EV and MPA, respectively. Intra- and inter-day precision values (RSD%) for EV and MPA were less than 5.15, and accuracy (relative error) was better than 4.60%. The mean recovery of EV and MPA was 99.2% for pharmaceutical preparations. The limits of detection of EV and MPA were 0.10 and 0.20 mu g/mL, respectively. The method was applied for the quality control of commercial EV and MPA dosage forms to quantify the drug and to check the formulation content uniformity.
