Laughter Yoga as a Nursing Intervention, NOVA Publications , ss.93-106, 2026
Although the prevalence of infertility varies among countries and regions, millions of people of reproductive age worldwide are affected by this condition. As parenthood is considered a significant life transition, infertility is recognized as a life crisis and impacts couples culturally, psychosocially, economically, and sexually. The diagnosis and treatment process of infertility reduces quality of life, leading to problems such as violence, social stigma, low self-esteem, and divorce. The most common psychological issues are anxiety, depression, and stress; stress can both cause infertility and increase infertility-related stress. Nurses should support individuals experiencing infertility in coping with psychosocial problems. Non-pharmacological methods such as acupuncture, yoga, meditation, and laughter yoga are used in this process. Laughter yoga is a simple and effective method for reducing infertility-related stress and is effective in reducing anxiety and depression during the IVF process. It also increases endorphin levels, reduces stress hormones, strengthens the immune system, and improves quality of life. Considering all these beneficial effects, it is recommended that nurses who are in close interaction with couples during the diagnosis and treatment process of infertility incorporate laughter yoga practices into nursing care to prevent or reduce psychological problems experienced during this period and to improve quality of life.
