The mechanisms of decolorization of synthetic wastewaters, which contain the various azo dyes used in textile industries, by adsorption on powdered activated carbon (PAC) and the equilibrium adsorption isotherms for these dyes were investigated. The standard Gibbs free energy variations belong to the adsorption of the Orange P and Red Px dyes that have the highest and lowest adsorption capacities, on activated carbon/water interfaces were observed to be -22.17 kjmol(-1) and -19.62 kjmol(-1), respectively.
