9th INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM OF LIMITLESS EDUCATION AND RESEARCH (ISLER 2025), Ankara, Türkiye, 8 - 10 Mayıs 2025, ss.94, (Özet Bildiri)
This proposal explores the transformative potential of Digital Storytelling (DS) within English for Specific Purposes (ESP) frameworks, emphasizing its multifaceted benefits in language acquisition, creativity, and critical engagement. DS merges traditional narrative techniques with contemporary multimedia tools, facilitating an innovative learning environment that enhances linguistic skills while fostering digital literacy. By examining the barriers to effective DS integration—such as technological access, varied digital competencies among learners, and the pedagogical alignment of DS activities with curriculum goals—this research highlights strategies for mitigating challenges, including the provision of tailored digital resources and comprehensive training for both students and educators. Informed by recent studies, this proposal underscores the need for structured implementation processes in DS projects, encompassing brainstorming, scripting, media selection, and iterative feedback cycles. It stresses the importance of collaborative storytelling, which not only democratizes the narrative construction process but also promotes peer interaction, enabling less confident learners to gradually enhance their skills. Furthermore, the proposal addresses ethical and accessibility considerations, advocating for inclusive practices that ensure equitable participation across diverse learner demographics. The evolving landscape of educational technology, marked by advancements in artificial intelligence and immersive experiences via virtual and augmented reality, offers exciting opportunities to enrich DS methodologies. This research contends that as DS becomes increasingly adaptable and accessible through mobile technologies and gamified learning environments, its role in nurturing autonomy and reflective practices among learners will be paramount. By critically analyzing DS's application within ESP contexts, this proposal aims to illuminate pathways for future research and pedagogical development, showcasing how DS can effectively prepare learners for the complexities of real-world communication and professional interactions. This presentation invites educators and researchers to engage in discussions on enhancing language education through innovative storytelling methodologies.
