In this study, it is aimed to reveal the repairs and changes made by the Grand Mosque, which is the largest and oldest mosque in Erzurum. The historical building was built by the Saltuklu principality in Hijri 575/ Gregorian 1179 and has a capacity of six thousand people. Located on Cumhuriyet Street in Erzurum, to the west of Çifte Minareli Madrasa, the building has been exposed to many natural disasters, interventions, and changes in its 850-year history. The historical mosque has been the subject of notes by Evliya Çelebi and many other travellers. The building, which has also been used as a hospital, arsenal, and warehouse in history, has been demolished and restored many times in different earthquakes. The mosque, which lost its originality in the historical process, is still one of the most important buildings of the city today. Within the scope of the study, the existing literature and archives were systematically reviewed, and documents belonging to the structure were obtained from the T.R. Directorate General of Foundations. In this context, the historical process of the building has been revealed chronologically, the current state of the building has been examined on-site and documented with photographs.
