Özet

Objective: Vaccines are effective interventions that can reduce the global burden of disease.
However, the attitude towards vaccines, especially of individuals in the COVID-19 risk group,
affects public health. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the approach of geriatric
individuals to the COVID-19 vaccine and the factors affecting this approach.
Materials and Methods: In the present study, a questionnaire consisting of 21 questions was
applied to 244 geriatric individuals who applied to Ataturk and Sakarya University Dentistry
for treatment. Logistic regression analysis was used in the statistical analysis of the data.
Statistically significant level was determined as P<0.005.
Results: According to the results of the current study, 87.7% of the participants stated that
they had the COVID-19 vaccine. No significant relationship was found between COVID-19
vaccination status and the university where the study was conducted (P=0.138), age (P=0.367),
marital status (P=0.259), education level (P=0.098), general health status (P=0.161), occupation
(P=0.124). Participants who were male, had a chronic disease, didn’t infect by COVID-19, were
afraid of catching COVID-19, thought that they would get over it severely if they caught the
disease, thought that the vaccine was beneficial for health, believed that the vaccine would
protect from catching the disease, reduce the risk of getting the disease, and help overcome
the disease with mild symptoms were more likely to be vaccinated against COVID-19. There was
no relationship between the participants’ views on whether the states could vaccinate the entire
population (P=0.069), whether children should be vaccinated (P=0.081), whether the COVID-19
vaccine would be vaccinated if it was paid (P=0.091) and the status of being vaccinated.
Conclusion: In the current study, it was concluded that a majority of the participants had the
COVID-19 vaccine and their general attitudes towards the vaccine were positive.
