Özet

Horses, one of the most important animals in Turkish culture, have served mankind for centuries in hunting, wars and transportation. With the development of technology, these functions of horses have ended, except for some rural areas. Today, horses have begun to be used in equestrian sports and in the treatment of some diseases. In addition, horse races have been an indispensable entertainment of mankind from past to present. The shelter and living areas of horses, which are quite large, are very important for the healthy life of these animals. Horse shelters are places that have many functions and must meet the special needs of the horses, who are the main users, and the people who take care of the horses. Studies on the mental and physical health of horses show that spatial characteristics have a direct effect on horses. For this reason, it is necessary to consider the physical and psycho-social characteristics of horses and to analyze their needs well in the design of the spaces for horses. Since the main user in horse shelters is the horse, the focus of the requirement is primarily the needs of the horses. In this context, within the scope of the study, the physical and psycho-social characteristics and user requirements of the horses that spend most of their time in shelters were determined within the framework of the rules specified in the literature studies, and interior design criteria were determined in the designs of horse shelters to be designed in equestrian centers, hippotherapy centers or farm structures.
