Myths provide significant insight into the geographical structure, social form and climate of the communities in which they were originated. With the invention of hi- eroglyphs, peoples of the Near Eastern societies immortalized the mythological nar- ratives that deeply affected them inherited from the past with celestial and religious imagination. The Sumerians, who remained within the borders of Iran and Iraq, and cultures coexisted with this civilization, attained their myths with a complete panthe- on. Anatolia, which is adjacent to Iran and Mesopotamia, was deeply influenced by these regions in terms of culture and carried some of its religious and mythological narratives to Continental Greece.
Over the millennia, Sumerian mythology influenced not only the Hatti, Hurrian and Hittite cultures in Anatolia, but also Babylonian, Assyrian, Elam, Canaanite, Phoeni- cian and Greek cultures. This effect is so prevalent that some mythological narratives still continue to live both in Anatolia and in our surrounding geography. This strong influence underlies the Iranian-Mesopotamian and Anatolian origin of the mytho- logical narratives of ancient Greek writers. It is quite natural that mythological nar- ratives surged along with the spread of the strong literary influence over the region from east to west, which started with the invention of writing by the Sumerians. In this study, reflections of the narratives of the Mesopotamian-Iranian origin mytholo- gies on the western cultures were analyzed.
