Özet

In this study, a general definition of folk culture changes is made and its scope is emphasized. The study is based on theory and practice. The theory is based on the work called Kultur Degistmeleri prepared by Mumtaz Turban in 1951 and his other related works. However, Turhan's work focuses mainly on cultural changes and sometimes on social changes. In addition, these issues are discussed in terms of social psychology in his works. Therefore, Turhan's works are only the first point of departure for examine the folk culture changes. The application side of search is the field work conducted within the frame work of a TUBITAK project between the years 2015 and 2017 in the villages near the provincial center of Erzurum. The term folk was until recently described as follows: people in downstream, a lot of people in the general population, a mean and rude group of people a group of people contrasting with the elite of the same society. After the definition of "folk" made by Alan Dundes, the assumptions on this subject have changed. According to Dundes, the term of folk refers at least any groupof people who share a common factor. It does not matter what the linking factor is - it could be a common occupation, language, or religion- but what is important is that a group formed for what ever reason will have some traditions which it call sits own. Thus, the culture of any group of people who have at least one common factor, some traditions of which they accept that it belongs to him, is the culture of the people. And also, changes in folk culture should be considered by this way. The data obtained from the field survey conducted in five villages near the provincial center of Erzurum are as follows: it is seen that the values accepted as custom do not change. In contrast, some customs and manners have changed. In particular, it has been determined that oral folk culture products belonging to previous periods have been lost or decreased. The ceremonial practices continued to be exaggerated due to the opportunities brought by material well-being despite the gradually weakening of folk beliefs.
