Objective: Plants have been utilized for various purposes for centuries. Many plants have been used not only for nutrition but also in the treatment of diseases. Today, plants play a significant role in the food and pharmaceutical industries. In this study, the species Rumex crispus L., belonging to the Polygonaceae family, has been evaluated in terms of its traditional uses, phytochemical content, and medicinal effects. Literature search was conducted using Google Scholar, Web of Science and Scopus databases. Result and Discussion: The leaves and branches of R. crispus are used as food in various regions. Its parts, such as leaves, roots, seeds, and fruits, have been recorded as being used in the treatment of various diseases in traditional medicine. It has been observed that the plant contains compounds such as anthraquinones, naphthalene, flavonoids, and various volatile oil components. R. crispus has been reported to possess several effects, including antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and hepatoprotective properties. It is believed that further studies on this species could be beneficial in the future.
