Objective: It is important to determine the knowledge level and hygiene habits of university students
on hygiene. In this study, it was aimed to determine the level of awareness of health services
vocational school students about hygiene and to observe what can be done to eliminate the detected
problems in hygiene.
Methods: The universe of the descriptive research was selected as students studying at a university's
vocational school of health services. In this study, 685 students who accepted to participate in the
study without using the sampling method were included in the study. The “Hygiene Questionnaire”
consisting of 45 questions developed by the researchers and the “Sociodemographic Information
Form” consisting of 10 questions were applied to the students. Descriptive statistics were used to
evaluate the data. Ethics committee approval was obtained for the research.
Results: The mean age of the students is 19.97±1.49 and 75.90% of them are girls. 4.08% of the
students were operating room services, 4.81% anesthesia, 9.05% dental prosthesis technology,
8.61% dialysis, 11.82% pharmacy services, 4.37% disabled care and rehabilitation, 7.88%
physiotherapy, 4.37% first and emergency aid, 4.37% audiometry, 1.60% orthopedic prosthesis and
orthotics, 7.15% medical documentation and secretarial, 17.22% medical imaging techniques,
13.57% medical laboratory techniques, % It was determined that 1.02 of them were studying in the
department of elderly care. It was determined that 95.8% of the boys and 99.0% of the girls knew
the necessity of periodic examination in order to be protected from infectious diseases in the
working environment and the difference was statistically significant (p˂0.05).
Conclusion: The level of awareness can be improved by giving more place to the subject of personal
hygiene in the contents of the courses taken by the students. With awareness studies, it will be
possible to make personal hygiene perceptible at the highest level.
