Özet

The research in this report focuses on the Turkish city of Istanbul that is currently home to 14,160,467inhabitants. Spanning two continents, Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey, constituting the country's economic, cultural and historical core. Istanbul experienced rapid growth, especially during the second half of the 20th century, with its population increasing tenfold between 1950 and 2000 (Gül, 2012). This remarkable growth has been fuelled largely by migrants from different parts of Turkey seeking employment and better living conditions. In recent decades, however, the city has also experienced increasing numbers of foreign immigrants. According to 2006 figures, only 28 percent of the city's residents are originally from Istanbul (KONDA, 2006). It is a highly diverse city in terms of cultural ethnic and socio-economic terms as well as lifestyles, cultural norms and attitudes...
