Ion exchange technology is currently the best way to remove heavy metals from water and wastewater. In this study, we investigated heavy metal ions as cadmium (Cd2+), nickel (Ni2+) and zinc (Zn2+) removal from aqueous solutions using synthetic resin. Batch experiments on the removal efficiency of heavy metal ions at under different conditions such as initial solution pH, stirring speeds, temperatures, initial concentrations and resin dosages of synthetic wastewater solutions were carried out. The maximal exchange levels attained were as follows: 99.76% Cd2+, 93.66% Ni2+ and 83.10% Zn2+ onto Dowex HCR-S synthetic resin at 293 K, 250 L-1 mg initial metal concentration, ion exchange time of 60 min, 400 rpm stirring speed, pH: 6.0 and 2 g resin dosage.
