PERSPECTIVES ON DIGITAL DENTISTRY, Esra KUL, Editör, Turkiye Klinikleri, Ankara, ss.143-154, 2025
Digital Smile Design (DSD) presents an innovative approach to aesthetic dentistry, offering enhanced transparency, predictability, and efficiency for both patients and dental practitioners. In contrast to conventional treatment methodologies, DSD utilizes digital technologies to create a personalized treatment plan tailored to individual patient requirements. This process involves a comprehensive analysis of the patient’s facial aesthetics, dentogingival proportions, and dental morphology. The main goal of DSD is to visualize patient expectations and aesthetic requirements through digital simulations, anabling the evaluation of treatment outcomes in advance. This approach facilitates more effective management of the treatment process by dental professionals while simultaneously increasing patient satisfaction. Treatment planning begins with the use of high-resolution photographs, videos, and digital scans. The resulting data were analyzed using general software (Photoshop, Keynote) or dentistry-specific software (VisagiSMile, SmileFly, and DSD App). This software creates a roadmap to achieve ideal results by examining facial aesthetics and dental parameters in detail. Digital smile design offers a patient-centered approach that combines aesthetics and functionality. Technological innovations have provided better quality and more predictable results in modern dentistry. This innovative perspective brought about by DSD redefines aesthetic standards in both clinical practice and patient-physician relationships. Consequently, dental professionals can provide their patients with more personalized and satisfactory treatment options.
