TURKEY AND DECLARATION OF THE TURKISH REPUBLIC IN THE SOVIET PRESS: ON EXAMPLE OF PRAVDA AND IZVESTIA NEWSPAPERS

Özet

The proclamation of the Republic of Turkey took place in many newspapers in the world, and also in Soviet press. This study aims to examine how the proclamation of the republic which means officially declared the Republic of Turkey, was reflected in the Soviet-Russian writing press. This review is done through the newspapers Pravda and Izvestiya which were the most important publications of the period. These newspapers were chosen because they represented the official ideology in the Soviet era, has included foreign news reports and because of that they were a source for other media. In the scope of the study, 3-month periods covering 1 October- 31 December of the 1923 were taken as an example. The news about "Turkey" in these newspapers was investigated. Content analysis was used as research method. At the end of the work, total of 22 news of this two newspapers were reached; these reports were evaluated on the basis of features such as title, subject, description, news direction and source under the explanatory and interview categories.
