Propontis’in Güneyinde Güçlü Bir Liman Kenti Kyzikos ve Deniz Ticareti

Özet

Antik Mysia Bölgesi’nde, MÖ 7. yüzyılda Miletos kolonisi olarak Ege ve Karadeniz arasında bir basamak taşı görevi üstlenen Kyzikos, bölgenin önemli bir ticaret merkezi konumundaydı.  Kent siyasi ve kültürel kimliğinin yanı sıra konumunun getirdiği avantajlı durumu en iyi şekilde kullanarak ticari anlamda da her dönem adından söz ettirmiştir. Kentin güneybatısındaki Hytos ve güneydoğusundaki Thrakikos limanları bu duruma katkı sağlamış geç dönemlere kadar kullanım görmüşlerdir. Kıyılarda konumlanan Abydos, Amisos, Byzantion, Heraklia, Lampsakos Parion, Priapos Trapezus ve Sinope gibi kentler arasında Kyzikos, önemli bir kavşak noktasında bulunuyordu. Antik dönemde kara ticaretinin zor ulaşım koşulları göz önünde bulundurulduğunda kent konumunu çok iyi kullanarak deniz ticaretinde hızlı bir gelişim göstermiştir. Doğal limanları, verimli toprakları ile balıkçılık, zeytincilik, ipekçilik ve şarapçılıkta önde gelen kentler arasında kalmayı başarmıştır. Bu çalışmada Propontis çevresinde çok önemli bir yeri olan deniz ticareti, bölgenin önde gelen kentlerinden biri olan Kyzikos üzerinden kapsamlı olarak değerlendirilecektir.

Cyzicus, which undertook the duty of a step-stone between Aegean and Blacksea regions as a colony of Miletos in the 7th century BC in ancient Mysia region, was one of the important trade center of the region. The city made its name known in every period in terms of trade by making use of its advantageous location as well as its political and cultural identity. Hytos harbour in the south-west and Thrakikos harbour in the south-east part of the city contributed to this situation and they were used until late periods. Cyzicus, among the cities such as Abydos, Amisos, Byzantium, Heraclea, Lampsakos, Parion, Priapos, Trapezus and Sinope which were located on the shores, was located on a significant junction point. Taking into consideration the difficult conditions of land trade in the ancient period, the city made use of its location and made a fast improvement in sea trade. It was able to remain among the prominent cities thanks to its trade in fishing, olive cultivation, sericulture and winemaking. In this study, sea trade which is quite significant around Propontis will be evaluated thoroughly by looking at Cyzicus as one of the prominent cities of the region.
