The probabilities of total, radiative and radiationless vacancy transfer from the K shell to the L-1, L-2 and L-3 subshells were determined for the elements Ce, Pr and Nd using L x-ray production cross-sections. L x-rays from targets excited by 59.5 keV incident photons, above the K edges of the elements, were detected with a high-resolution Si(Li) detector: The results measured were compared with theoretical values based on the Hartree-Slater wavefunction. They are found to be in good agreement.
